Wings: Welcome

My Experience

This paper sculpture was created as part of my Introduction to 3D Design course. I believe this to be my most successful project from the semester. I love the way it turned out! For this assignment, we were given a piece of paper and told to make it into a sculpture. We were not allowed to use any kind of glue or adhesive. We later transferred our original paper ideas to a larger poster board.

Tessellation

To create my piece, I performed a tessellation(a repeated pattern) that I found online on the paper. To do this, I folded it back and forth in a certain pattern that created the raised areas on the piece. I then joined the corners of the poster board in the center and cut a small slit so that it would stay in place. Finally, I cut the ends of the poster board so that it would not look like a straight edge. This folding allowed for a textured surface on the sculpture.

Working with Material Constraints

For this piece, we were challenged to only use 1 piece of poster board with no adhesives. This demonstrated how to use creativity when materials are limited. Though I was not able to utilize much, I was still able to create a visually appealing piece.

What Doesn't Kill You Makes You(r Art) Stronger

This project forced many constraints on us as artists, but eventually allowed us to create really unique pieces. These limitations ended up being what made our pieces great. I truly learned the value of coming up with a creative solution and exploring new opportunities for artistic expression.l
